School Shoes Size Guide
School shoes need to survive long days, quick growth and repeated wear, so the best size is comfortable, secure and not excessively roomy.
Growing room
A small amount of growing room is useful, but too much can cause heel slip, rubbing and trips.
- Measure both feet.
- Check width as well as length.
- Re-check fit during the school year.
Width and fastening
Laces, straps and buckles can improve hold, but they do not fix a shoe that is too narrow or too long.
Common questions
How often should school shoes be measured?
For younger children, every few months is sensible. Older children may need less frequent checks.
Should school shoes be bought big?
Only slightly. Shoes that are much too big can be uncomfortable and unsafe.
