Fit
Wide vs Extra Wide Shoes
Wide and extra-wide shoes both add room across the foot, but extra wide is intended for feet that still feel squeezed in ordinary wide-fit shoes.
The practical difference
Wide fit is the first step up from standard width. Extra wide gives more space again, usually across the forefoot and toe box.
When to choose extra wide
Choose extra wide if wide fit still causes side pressure, red marks or toe crowding while the length is correct.
- Try wide first if you are only slightly squeezed.
- Try extra wide if wide fit is still uncomfortable.
- Do not use extra length to solve width pressure.
Common questions
How much wider is extra wide?
There is no universal amount. The difference depends on brand and model.
Is extra wide the same as sizing up?
No. Extra wide changes the width, while sizing up changes length.
