Half Shoe Sizes Explained
A half size is a small length adjustment, not a width adjustment. It is useful when your foot sits between two full sizes.
What a half size changes
Half sizes mainly change length. They do not reliably solve tightness across the widest part of the foot.
When to choose a half size
Choose the half size when your toes are close to the end but the larger full size feels loose. For formal shoes, the closer size may work better than for trainers.
- Go half up if the toe is short.
- Go half down if the heel slips and the toe still has room.
- Choose wide fit if the sides are tight.
Common questions
Are half sizes wider?
No. Half sizes are primarily length changes. Width depends on the shoe design or width fitting.
Do all brands make half sizes?
No. Some brands and styles only offer whole sizes, especially sandals, boots and fashion footwear.
